Footers for the western wall have now been poured.
|
So far, construction is just about on schedule. All of the “footings” are now complete
...these are the poured concrete bases for the foundation walls.
The steel rods sticking out of each of the footings are called “rebar”,
which is the short name for reinforcing bars. As the name implies, they serve
to make the concrete stronger. They also tie the footings to the foundation walls.
Over the next three to four weeks, you will see the foundation walls starting to be formed, which then allows the concrete to be poured. After the concrete sets, the forms are removed for reuse on another wall [or eventually, on some other project]. Finally, there will be initial concrete masonry block walls started in the next couple of weeks. The sewer and storm drain work has started and eventually, these pipes, as well as the other utility lines for electricity, phone, and water will be tied into the building. |
The forms (to shape the concrete) for the main interior wall were truly massive!
Here's a view looking north.
Feb 12: (Sunday) 15 inches of snow fell, leading to cancellation of services.
However, the snow soon melted and we kept on building.
During the past two weeks the basement floor was poured and
the steel framework for floors 1 and 2 was erected.
Hollow-core concrete planks made it easy to assemble a lightweight floor.
Mt. McFall was shrinking as earth was replaced around the foundations.
The western stairwell here is nearly enclosed in concrete blocks.
