Seven choirs provide opportunities for all ages and schedules.

Goals of the Music Program

One of the main purposes of the music program is to provide music during worship services. Every choir (except one) participates in Sunday worship services on a regular basis. In addition, they present music for special services, such as Lessons and Carols at Christmas, Thanksgiving Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and evensongs. Six of the choirs are open to anyone who wishes to participate, while membership in two other choirs is by audition. In addition to singing choirs, the church also has an adult bell choir.

Opportunities for children and youth are a focal point of the music ministry. There are three choirs for children, the Cherub Choir, the Herald Choir, and the Chapel Choir, each of which includes social activities and special events. In addition, the chldren present a special musical play each spring. The parents of the choir children have formed support groups to coordinate social activities, such as a choir pizza dinner once a month, and organize children and robes on Sunday mornings. A recent project has been to raise money for new robes for the children’s choirs.

Music outreach activities are a continuing priority, led by the Outreach Choir. This choir was formed in order to sing at retirement communities, nursing homes, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities. Last year, they sang for over fifteen different institutions totaling over twenty concerts. Other church choirs also participate.

The music program also provides quality musical events for the surrounding community. The Messiah Sing each December draws in people from near and far to "sing along" for this beloved work. Each spring, one of the choirs presents a special cantata, usually a Requiem, at a special evensong/concert. Singers from other churches and the community are often invited to participate if they wish. The youth of the church present a musical program in which other youth from local high schools are welcome to take part.

The Choirs

Chancel Choir (All who sing)

This is the "advanced" children’s choir for those children who wish to take their singing experience to the highest levels. In addition to leading a worship service twice a month, they join with adult singers to present a service of Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve and a concert in the spring. Membership is by audition.

Cherub Choir (pre-K through grade 2)
Sun 10:35 to 10:55 AM during church school
